Hold It In

Date Written: 10 October 2024

Hold it in
Take a deep breath
Count to 10
Do not bend

Hold it in
Wear a smile
Frown only within
Do not show emotion

Stay silent
Stay stoic
Stay outwardly calm
Keep from revealing
Your inner most
Felt thoughts

Hold it in
Take a deep, long breath
You can endure it
Hold.
It.
In.

If Nature Spoke

Date Written: 12 September 2011

The trees are my people
The birds are my guards
I am their ruler
The one and all
But I have been captured
Stolen you could say
From the demons who took my life away
These demons are selfish, greedy beasts
Who attain to their goals and to their needs
They care about them and only them
The greedy self-centered beasts
Vicious and cruel
Killing off species one and all
They ride in large machines
And live in huge caves
They burn my people
And eat my guards away
And it is as if they have lost their hearts
They leave behind torturous devices
And appetizing wastes
Unaware of the danger that awaits
Their machines make toxic air
That has killed my mother, father, and even that pear
But it is not a worry for my cousin
Because my cousin has gone up to the sky
And then comes back down for another ride
These beasts you might ask
What are they?
Well they are the one who takes your life away
They have killed their own kind
Times before
But the world started to live once more

Shades of Blue

Date Written: 11 March 2011

Shadows
Darkness
What are they?
Twilight
Moonlight
What are they?
Are they dots on paper?
Or the monsters in your closet?
Are they the stars in the sky?
Or a romantic date?
What are shadows?
What is darkness?
Are they black or blue?
Is twilight good?
Is moonlight bad?
Are they big or small?
Are shadows darkness
In the moonlight?
Or a twilight night?
If they are, then will I see them?

Will I?
Or will I be a figure in the distance?

Do you know?
Please, please tell me!
I really want to know!
Please, please tell me!

Welcome To Alexandra Molloy’s Blog!

Hello and Welcome to my blog! If you hadn’t guessed yet, my name is Alexandra. This blog has been a dream of mine, and I am happy to finally say, it’s no longer a dream and now a reality. I had the idea of creating a blog while a university undergraduate student. Once graduating in 2021 I started to create my own blog, but the true grunt work of creating my blog did not start until 2023, where I worked on it on and off while juggling family, social life, other adult responsibilities, and gaining job security after being laid off twice within that same year. With everything in my life happening all at once, creating and starting a blog made me feel like I was swimming in a large ocean only to find out I was never swimming in an ocean, but a large man-made lake of my own creation.

I found myself getting lost in the details, research, fear of the unknown, and lack of confidence in myself over what I originally presumed to be something simple to start. It being now 2025 at the time of this post, I finally got myself to swim ashore and see the bigger picture; I was focusing too much of my attention on making the perfect blog website and accounting for every hypothetical mistake I could make. I lost sight of why I originally wanted to start my blog in the first place. After that realization, I took a breather and asked myself; why I am even doing this?

The answer I came up with was “I don’t know, but I know I want more for myself.” That answer shaped my new approach to create and start this blog, and now I am so grateful to be here, sharing my first blog post instead of wondering if or when I will ever get my blog launched. In celebration of my blog launch, I have published five poems on my poetry page that I have written and now will share with you my goals for this initial first year of my blog.

As of right now, I have two main goals for this blog; one is to publish at least one self-written poem a week for the first year of my blog’s existence. The second is to start my first blog series called Life After Undergrad, where I intend to share some of my experiences since post-graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree and anything I wish I knew while still in undergrad. What happens beyond that is still in the works.  If you reading this has any suggestions for content you’d like to see for poetry or my future Life After Undergrad series, feel free to comment them on this post! Whether you share suggestions or not, thank you for taking the time to read my first ever blog post and I hope you have a great rest of your day/night!
